WHAT IT IS...

Human trafficking may appear to be domestic violence, or other crimes.

THE PROJECT

We choose this project to spread awareness to the topic because not many people think twice about it. Human trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others. Human trafficking is the trade in people, especially women and children, and does not necessarily involve the movement of the person from one place another. Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to lure their victims and force them into labor or commercial sexual exploitation.

THE HARD TRUTH

99%

OF WOMEN AND GIRLS ARE PUT INTO THE SEX INDUSTRY

81%

TRAPPED IN FORCED LABOR

75%

ARE WOMEN AND GIRLS

Human trafficking can happen to people of all ages and genders, and of any race or religious background. Victims frequently do not seek help due to language barriers, fear of their traffickers or fear of law enforcement. Because human trafficking is considered to be a hidden crime, several key indicators can help people recognize potential endangerment and notify law enforcement. A common misconception about human trafficking is that it does not happen in the Untied States. This is false, as the United States is ranked as one of the worst countries in the world for human trafficking. It is estimated that 199,000 incidents occur within the United States every year.
